The session aims at showcasing events and highlighting outcomes of the Year of Mineralogy 2022, proclaimed by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA), approved by UNESCO, and included as part of the initiatives of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD2022), running from July 2022 to October 2023.
Contributions reporting on dissemination and outreach events, educational activities, workshops, and other initiatives organised during the Year of Mineralogy in Italy and abroad are welcomed.
Focus of the session will be on:
(i) visions and recommendations for Mineralogy to keep a central role in the process of sustaining our planet
(ii) capacity building in science and in particular, in Mineralogy
(iii) how Mineralogy can address the SDGs and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda
(iv) how Mineralogy can foster inclusion, ensure mutual respect, and embrace diversity.
The session will also cover new teaching methods and strategies, as well as retrospectives highlighting the grounds of modern mineralogy.
