Despite the evident increased need of public appreciation and awareness of the role of geosciences for the complex management of land and use of geo-resources, there is still a limited perception of the potential and importance of our disciplines for the future societal challenges, including of course climate changes, natural hazards, and sustainable use of resources. The session invites contributions towards innovative strategies to increase public awareness and societal education at large, including the re-thinking of the role of natural history and geosciences museums, community engagements, and other educational activities.
