The recent relaunch of the CARG Project – the Italian official geological and geothematic mapping project has given new impetus to the collection of new field data for advancing geoscience. This represents a benchmark for interpreting the geological framework and understanding the formation, evolution and dynamics of the Alps and Apennines mountain belts and related sedimentary basins. In addition, the resulting data and products are essential for proper environmental and land-use planning, including marine and coastal settings, natural resources management, and disaster risks reduction. This session aims to collect contributions from the many activities that take part in the creation of a CARG products – geological sheet, subsurface map and 3D model, showing the results of fieldwork in different geological contexts. Scientific contributions may concern with stratigraphy, structural geology, Quaternary and marine geology, paleontology, geomorphology and morphotectonics, petrology, geochemistry and geochronology. Geological and geothematic maps, geological 3D models, as well as contribution regarding methodologies of collection, storage and restitution of field data are also welcome.
